It all started with a Coinbase newsletter containing a small blurb. It was a sentence that launched a thousand $PEPE.

The following comment sent the $PEPE on a rampage on Twitter.

“Over time [Pepe] has been co-opted as a hate symbol by alt-right groups, according to the Anti-Defamation League.”

Influencers like @3orovik voiced the overall sentiment of the $PEPE community by saying, “Why is @coinbase sending out emails telling people that $pepe is an alt-right hate symbol??”

Solidity developer, Kenobi encouraged his followers to move their funds to Gemini and short $COIN, Coinbase.

@Gemini wasted no time. Posting a more positive message (see below) on their listing page for $PEPE.

It’s unclear if there’s a direct correlation between Coinbase’s message and the recent drop in $PEPE’s price.

Only time will tell. For now, we’re here with the 🍦 to waiting to see if they really short $COIN.
